OPHTHALMOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS PERFORMED AT THE BORDEAUX UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN THE ALIENOR STUDY

Recording of ophthalmological history
(diagnosed diseases, ophthalmological treatments)
Measurement of distance visual acuity
  • Refraction measurement using auto-refractometer
  • Measurement of current and best corrected distance visual acuity using the ETDRS charts (Light House Low Vision, New York, NY)

Measurement of current and best corrected near visual acuity using Parinaud charts, which is the usual near vision test used by French ophthalmologists (Luneau, Chartres, France)
Dilation of the pupil with mydriaticum

Two 45° non mydriatic color fundus photographs (one centered on the macula, the other centered on the optic disc) using high resolution digital non mydriatic retinograph (TRC, NW6S, Topcon, Tokyo)
Measurement of intraocular pressure using pneumotonometer (KT 800, Kowa, Japan)

Tear break-up time test performed at a slit lamp

Since 2009

SD-OCT examination using Spectralis (Software Version 5.4.7.0; Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany).
Fundus autofluorescence and Infrared reflectance images obtained using the confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope (CSLO) of the same device.

Large-field retinal images in color and auto-fluorescence (Optomap, Optos, Dunfermline, UK)

Measurement of the axial length (IOL Master)
Biomechanical properties of the cornea (Ocular Response Analyzer, Reichert, Depew, USA)
